No Exercise Often Increases Risk of More St Peters Pain & Disease Progression

September 24, 2019

Do something. Walk. Stretch. Move. Pain sufferers benefit when they do something. No exercising is a risk for deteriorating pain, both pain in the body and pain in the mind in the form of depression. Old Mill Chiropractic sees many St Peters back pain patients in pain who also deal with depression. Old Mill Chiropractic also knows that when our St Peters chiropractic patients do something, they get better in body and mind.

NO EXERCISE INCREASES RISK OF STENOSIS PROGRESSION

Spinal stenosis is a common diagnosis. It is the reduction of the spinal canal area due to degeneration. A recent study reported that risk of spinal stenosis progression is higher for those who had spondylolisthesis, experienced pain (in leg and/or back) when walking, and more severe stenosis. The absence of therapeutic exercise was also found to a risk factor for the progression of spinal stenosis. (1) Back pain sufferers like those who have spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis need exercise! Old Mill Chiropractic helps each of our chiropractic patients find what exercise is right for them.

EXERCISE ENHANCES FUNCTION

Nonspecific low back pain sufferers improved their functional disability status better with stabilization and/or McKenzie exercises than with conventional exercise programs. (2) Notice though that exercise helped, conventional or not!

EXERCISE IMPROVES DEPRESSION

For many back pain sufferers with specific or non-specific back pain, chronic or not, may well find themselves a little blue when their back pain sticks around a while. It’s not uncommon. Again, exercise helps! Another study showed that exercise (low dose or moderate-dose strength and conditioning) helped reduce depressive symptoms in adults with chronic low back pain. Combining exercise and manual therapy was a bonus! (3) Old Mill Chiropractic brings in as many positive approaches to back pain relief as possible to help our St Peters back pain patients! The Cox® Technic System of Spine Pain Management is one of those approaches.
