St Peters Anti-inflammatory, Anti-Tumor (and more) Healing with Frankincense and Myrrh
Frankincense and myrrh, two venerated gifts sourced from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia and the Commiphora, respectively – make remarkable partners in healing! Both have been used throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, particularly Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more assets tackle issues with many different health conditions, many that Old Mill Chiropractic sees in our St Peters chiropractic patients who may want to know more!
THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh
Chinese medicine esteems frankincense and myrrh for their extensively beneficial health effects. Used together, their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and significantly for anti-tumor effects stopped growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh are components of an anti-tumor drug for various cancers with the latest research showing its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By monitoring pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and affecting the blood vessels that support tumors in HCC. Tumor volume was reduced, and pathological structure was diminished with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh controlled urotheilial wound healing to improve symptoms of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome. (3) The frankincense/myrrh comination proves itself to be a winning/healing one!
NEUROPATHIC PAIN
Old Mill Chiropractic welcomes combinations of treatments to help our St Peters chiropractic patients seeking healing. Chinese medicine addresses diabetic neuropathy, a critical problem of diabetes and cause of kidney disease, by regulating pathways involved in the glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-fibrosis, anti-inflammation, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is described as being able to activate blood and disperse blood stasis. The combination was tested and found to lessen neuropathic pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to inhibition of TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Old Mill Chiropractic knows all this detail may not be “up your alley” of wanting to know, but we want to share the whole story if only to highlight how well frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great effect!
