August 2021 Healthy News from Old Mill Chiropractic
Old Mill Chiropractic welcomes all spine pain patients! Spine pain is disconcerting for its sufferers. St Peters chiropractic spinal manipulation is beneficial for many. Though low back pain is a major source of disability around the world, its sufferers who have recurrent or persistent bouts of low back pain find chiropractic maintenance care effective as it is patient-centered care. (1) Neck pain sufferers, too, discover relief with chiropractic. Neck pain patients who undergo spinal manipulation – 90% of which is delivered by chiropractors in the US – were found to be 2.38 times less likely to need escalated and costly care like imaging, injection, emergency room or surgery (just 26%) than patients who were treated with other kinds of care (46%). (2) A recent study of Medicare patient claims reports that patients who had decreased access to chiropractic care had a rise in visits (32.3 a year) to primary care physicians for spine pain and an increase in spine surgeries (5.5 a year) costing an extra $114,967 per 1000 Medicare beneficiaries and $391 million nationally. (3) Your St Peters chiropractor is well-skilled in performing spinal manipulation. Spinal manipulation is and has been advised as first-line treatment for low back pain. Medicare claims’ reviews note that chiropractors are the majority of healthcare providers for spinal manipulation and that the overall supply of spinal manipulation providers is dropping. (4) Don’t worry! Your hometown, St Peters chiropractor does not intend to stop providing pain-relieving spinal manipulation, particularly the gentle, research-supported Cox® Technic style of spinal manipulation.
Listen to this PODCAST with Dr. Kurt Olding on The Back Doctors Podcast with Dr. Michael Johnson as he discusses the place of spinal manipulation in the Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management for the relief of spinal stenosis, a common spine pain condition in the over-65 age set.
Beneficial B Vitamins
B vitamins are beneficial. B12 deficiency is often linked with dementia in patients 65 years old and over. It has also been seen in younger people who have normal B12 levels but their methylmalonic acid (MMA) level is high. Checking the MMA level may be considered in patients with symptoms that seem unrelated as in one patient with neuropathy, depression and stomach issues who was found to have a high MMA. (5) Biotin (B7) supplementation is showing potential in the treatment of neuropathic pain and could lessen the required doses of analgesic drugs. (6) Riboflavin (B2) in foods and via supplements is renowned for its antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory effects among others. A new study found that B2 to be anti-itch. (7) Are your B levels good? We’ll talk at your next visit!
