St Peters CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH: Strengthen the Quadratus Lumborum

The quadratus lumborum – a quadrilateral-shaped muscle - is a paired muscle on the left and right side of the abdominal wall. It’s a deep muscle and typically considered a back muscle as it stretches from the upper 4 lumbar vertebrae to the 12th rib. When contracted, the quadratus lumborum causes lateral flexion of the lumbar spine and/or elevation of the pelvis. (5) Various bridge-type exercises are being examined about the way in which they strengthen the quadratus lumborum’s dual layers of muscle in order for it to best add to the motor control of the lumbar pain and prevent back pain. (6) Old Mill Chiropractic and you can discuss how your spine may benefit from such exercise at your next St Peters chiropractic visit to Old Mill Chiropractic.
